Originally founded by Will Hammer and Enrique Carreras in 1934, Hammer Film Productions is Britain’s most prolific independent film studio. By 1958 the blueprint for what became known as “Hammer Horror” was complete when the company added a new ingredient: Sex and Hammer had become a globally recognised brand. Hammer had now become the only film production company in history to have distribution deals with every major American studio. In the mid-1960s the company was marketing itself as the “House of Horror” and in 1966 they released their 100th film. Hammer produced their last horror film, To the Devil a Daughter, in 1975 and their final film, a remake of The Lady Vanishes in 1979.
